Philip Baum, Chair, Behavioural Analysis 2025; Managing Director, Green Light Ltd; and, Visiting Professor, Aviation Security, Coventry University, UK
A security professional with an international civil aviation background, Philip’s reputation is built on his common-sense approach to risk management. He encourages others to think outside the box and develop effective security solutions capitalising on human intuition and the intelligent use of technology.
In 2021, he was the recipient of the Lifetime Service to Aviation Security Award presented by Emirates Group Security and Edith Cowan University. He was an expert witness in the United Kingdom’s House of Commons’ Home Affairs Committee inquiry into aviation security in the aftermath of the attempted downing of an aircraft by a suicide bomber on Christmas Day 2009.
Philip devised and developed T.R.A.P.® (Tactical Risk Assessment of People), a risk-based security system based on non-racial profiling, observational and questioning techniques. He established and now chairs the DISPAX World series of conferences (addressing unruly airline passenger behaviour), as well as the Behavioural Analysis series – this being the seventh edition.
He is a visiting professor of Aviation Security at Coventry University. He is an accredited instructor and courseware developer for both the Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Currently he is working on both UNODC and UNOCT projects relating to behaviour detection and the behavioural sciences.
Philip was editor-in-chief of Aviation Security International between 1997 and 2021. In 2016, he authored, and Summersdale published, Violence in the Skies: a history of aircraft hijacking and bombing.
Adelaide Amaro, Manager Quality Control & Integrity – Security Department, Kenya Airways, Kenya
Adelaide Amaro is an aviation professional with 30 years’ experience, currently serving as the Manager of Quality Control & Integrity in Kenya Airways’ security department; she is the lead coordinator for the carrier’s anti-human trafficking initiative. Adelaide’s engagement with the senior leadership of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Vienna in January 2024, presented a crucial turning point in the fight against human trafficking in the aviation sector.
By showcasing a successful model from Kenya Airways, Adelaide highlighted effective strategies and best practices that could be adopted globally. The significance of her contributions was further solidified when these recommendations were later adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). A resolution was passed in Montreal – during ICAO facilitation panel held from 26 February to 1 March 2024 – to make it mandatory for airlines to develop a policy to Combat Trafficking in Persons (CTIP). On 5th June 2024, Adelaide’s dedication to fighting human trafficking and smuggling of migrants culminated in a significant milestone with the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Kenya Airways and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This partnership serves as a model for other airlines and countries, promoting a unified front against these global challenges.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Leadership from Management University of Africa. She’s a trained Coach & Mentor, a Certified Instructor in Safety and Security, Internal Auditor, member of IATA Security Task Force with additional certificates in aviation security management.
